Purple Caturra - Cold Natural
Tasting Notes: Toasted Coconut, Tropical Fruit, Strawberry, Passion Fruit, Vanilla
Rodrigo Sanchez Valencia, a third-generation coffee producer, is renowned for his innovative approach to coffee processing and meticulous attention to detail. Located in the Huila department of Colombia, his Monteblanco farm is committed to producing consistent, high-quality coffee. Purple Caturra is a rare varietal Rodrigo discovered on his family farm, planted by his grandfather many years before.
Cold Natural Processing - Pioneered by Rodrigo and his team in 2015, the process consists of placing freshly harvested coffee cherries into a cold room to prolong fermentation for 76 hours. After this, the coffee is sun-dried for 6 days and then moved to dry in the shade for 20+ days.
The result is a deliciously sweet cup with a complex array of fruits and florals, underpinned by a funky note characteristic of naturally processed coffees. The freshly ground coffee is reminiscent of a buttery pastry and the toasted coconut note once brewed adds to the intrigue. Excellent as filter and espresso.
This coffee is partnered with another of Rodrigo's coffees, a Cold Washed Pink Bourbon.
